The essential kit includes: The Tailor’s Ham and the Clapper with groove and stick!
The Tailor’s Ham — The best tailor’s ham for pressing the bust area, bra cups, and children’s clothing.
- Perfect for pressing bust cups
- Allows you to easily shape garments and seams around the bust area without deforming them.
- Can be used for children’s garments and sleeve caps in small sizes.
- This pressing ham is professional and exceptionally firm, unlike the checked commercial hams available everywhere.
- The ham is filled with exceptionally compact micro-sawdust that is resistant to moisture and mould, so it will last forever.
- Dimensions: 14 cm x 10 cm x 10 cm
Handmade in Japan from sustainable Paulownia wood, also known as Kiri, the tree of life. Traditionally, when a daughter was born, a Kiri tree was planted, and later a trunk was made from its wood and given to the daughter as a dowry when she married.
Care: The ham is very durable, but dirt from the iron or limescale from steam may stain the fabric; this will not affect its use. If the ham accidentally falls and becomes misshapen or dented, we suggest carefully massaging it until it returns to its original shape.
The Clapper — Perfect for flattening seams, pleats, and zippers. Includes the mini stick for pressing difficult seams.
- The Clapper is an essential tool for achieving a professional pressing finish. The wood captures the steam from the iron and retains it in the fabric for longer, resulting in neat seams and well-defined pleats. Applying pressure with the tailor’s wood produces results similar to those of a pressing machine.
- Perfect for opening and flattening straight or curved seams without marking the fabric, while preventing burns to your hands and fingers.
- Ideal for pressing seams, pleats, and zippers on finished garments.
- Dimensions: 24 cm x 7 cm x 3.5 cm
- Made in Girona, Catalonia, using FSC European beech hardwood
- The double-ended stick with flat sides acts as a mini ironing board, allowing you to reach difficult-to-access areas. It is included with our tailor’s Clapper.
Instructions for use: Use the tailor’s wood by pressing down and lifting it slightly as you move it to another point, avoiding dragging it across the fabric. Always test it on a scrap of fabric to observe how it behaves and the result. Take special care when working with delicate or transparent fabrics. The Clapper will glide smoothly over fabrics that do not snag easily. Remember: lift and press, lift and press!
Care: The tailor’s wood is made from hard natural wood; nevertheless, it reacts to temperature and humidity, but with a little care it will last a lifetime. If it falls or cracks, sand it carefully so that it does not snag the fabric. If the wood grain rises, sand it gently with very fine sandpaper. Wipe away excess dust with a microfibre cloth; if the cloth still snags, you need to sand it further. During the manufacturing process, the grain is pre-raised with water and then sanded, but as this is a natural product, we cannot guarantee its stability 100%. If your Clapper performs poorly because it was made from the wood of a rebellious tree, please let us know and we will do everything possible to resolve the problem.
